About the Journal of Southern Agricultural Education Research (JSAER)

The Journal of Southern Agricultural Education Research (JSAER) is a distinguished regional publication within the field of agricultural education, communications, and leadership. JSAER serves as a vital platform for disseminating research pertinent to the Southern Region of the American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE).

Our History

JSAER was established as a publication of the AAAE Southern Region's Research Committee. Its founding created a dedicated forum for scholars to share research conducted within, or with significant implications for, the unique agricultural and educational landscape of the Southern Region.

The journal boasts a rich history, with early volumes dating back to the beginning of the 21st century (e.g., Volume 51 in 2001, Volume 54 around 2004-2005). A pivotal moment in JSAER's development occurred in the mid-2000s when a rigorous, second blind peer-review process was implemented. This commitment to enhanced quality was a crucial step in elevating JSAER's reputation as a high-quality regional journal.

Today, JSAER operates as an online-only, rolling publication. Accepted articles are continuously added to the current annual volume, ensuring timely access to the latest research.

JSAER's influence stems from its critical role in circulating research that addresses specific, practical issues and emerging trends in Southern agricultural education. This contributes directly to advancing professional practice, informing policy decisions, and stimulating further research in the field.

This allows for in-depth exploration of the unique challenges and opportunities present in the Southern U.S., covering topics such as distinctive teaching methodologies or specific student demographics.
  • Influencing Practice: Articles provide actionable recommendations for agriculturalists.
  • Informing Curriculum and Policy: The research featured in JSAER addresses a valuable need when guiding curriculum development and program revisions within Land-Grant Colleges. This ensures that graduates are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the agricultural industry, including advancements in digital agriculture, sustainability practices, and global trade.
  • Promoting Quality Research: Through its ongoing commitment to a refined and rigorous peer-review process, JSAER has consistently elevated the quality of the research it publishes. This dedication solidifies its standing as a recognized and reliable source of information for the agricultural education community, both within the Southern Region and beyond.
